Dear all,

please find a bug report against core attached. I'm sending it to the 
list mostly as a reminder for myself and others to eventually 
investigate such issues with our use of threads.

If anyone could contribute to fixing this, you would certainly earn 
people's gratitude. A start would be to code up a TODO test for core 
based on Nicholas' example.
