an early version of the tokenizer and its XS wrapper are done. "Done" in 
the sense of "compilable". We are currently waiting for a massive rain 
of tuits to strike Adam, who needs to make the PPI lexer pluggable in 
order for experimentation to continue. But even when he gets to that, 
there will likely be somewhat slow progress on the C++ and XS fronts in 
fixing the bugs that will doubtlessly be discovered. Shmuel and I are 
both pretty busy with work and other projects.
